Reality check

On the way to work
The usual route
Unusual traffic pile up
Bumper to bumper traffic
Four-road junction
A car stopped in the middle of the road
A fallen bike
Crowd of people
Pool of blood clotting on the road

Not a question of whose fault it was
But a matter of a life potentially lost...

Please wear a helmet...

(This is a reminder to me as well)

Yes! Please wear a helmet, all you cyclists! On so many of our little country roads, there are cyclists out enjoying nature, but very often they are hard to see and not wearing a helmet. Cycling around here is recreation rather than transportation, and sometimes the look is everything! That's so foolish, as your thoughtful poem attests.

Nothing will change these idiots who care for their appearance than their life. You have the guys who fearing hair loss skip the helmet and the girls who wrapped up in their dupattas, gloves, coolers and everything else to save their tan but a helmet for reasons best known to them.

Sandy - Yep. I force myself to wear it. But i do default now and then. I actually ride a scooter around here. Riding bicycles can be pretty crazy here...

Kirthi - Hmmm... Yes. It is important.

Me - I have no idea, me. I was passing by and i had to move on as the traffic would pile up otherwise. I still ride a scooter around. Yep. Trying to be as safe as possible. And the traffic has gone really crazy since you have been here last...

Sandhya - How true. Most of the bikers die because of head injury.

CW - Done. Completed the tag.

Crazybugga - Some people don't realise it even then... Sadly...

Jollyroger - Yeah... Sad... It is the attitude of 'it can't happen to me. I'm invincible...'

Although it doesn't really correlate with your story, I was passing by this scene on Sunday: A child (no helmet) crosses the street with his parents but suddenly he stops without reason in the middle of the street. The next three cars manage to stop. The mother is relieved and thankfully waves at the drivers. But then a fourth car comes too fast and crashes into the other three cars. The family was fine but lots of people in the cars were injured.

This was one of two blog posts I read about serious bike accidents last week from my blog friends. The other was in China. :-(

We have a helmet law for children where I live--too bad we don't do that for adults, too, here and everywhere. My son went without his helmet ONCE when he was little. That very day, he went over his handlebars and ended up with 17 stitches in his ear.

I can't encourage "brain buckets" enough. The skull is as fragile as a melon. We're breakable. I can't believe that they changed the law in America so that motorcyclists don't have to wear helmets in exchange for increased insurance coverage. How inconsiderate of the people who love you. I wanna bitch-slap every fool I see with his or her hair blowing in the wind. Brain damage, vegetative state, crippling and that's if you're lucky enough to survive.
It doesn't take a big accident to crack your head open.
Bungi, wear that helmet, properly fitted and strapped! No excuses!

Scribbler - Nope. Did not see the person. But what i had described i saw...

Choconet - Oh no... Accidents are horrible...

Julie - The helmet law here is crazy... The women and kids are exempt from wearing it because that is not the norm (?!!)

Jean - That insurance thing is as crazy as our helmet rules here... Women and kids are exempt from wearing it...

Yep. Will strap up my head bucket whenever i am scooting on the roads here...
