Memories revisited

I haven’t heard some sounds in a long time. I love the fierce sounds of nature – that of thunder and wind especially. I remember when I studied in a boarding school up in the hills I used to hear these sounds often. The sound of rolling thunder. It was a sound that was frightening to many, but to me it was the sound of Majesty.

And then there is the sound of the wind. The tall eucalyptus and the other kinds of trees sliced through the wind that blew through the woods. The sound mere whistle some times; and it would be howling and wailing at other times.

Living in a city has its benefits. And you quite forget that these sounds exist. You read about them at times. You remember them wistfully. But those are passing moments. Thankfully the gentle breeze still blows in the cities. I love the feel of gentle breeze upon my face. They say it is a reminder that God is still at work…

These few days are refreshing. I am vacationing at my cousin’s. I can wake up in the morning, walk out of the house and look at a field, lots of sky, and the hills…

And you can hear the gusty wind bellowing through the trees… You can hear the wind howl…

(This was written on 28th July when i was vacationing and i wasn't connected.)

the sound of wind, rain and thunder - I love them. during my college days, I used to walk to the nearest hill and lie down, listening to the sound of wind - being a high range area, the wind was pretty strong.
My favorite nature sound is that of rain - from the pitter patter to the non stop furious rains. there was a rain special to the geographical area where my college situated - rain no 40 - the silent rain.
now I get to sample the sound of wind when I ride out on my bike :)

Living in the suburbs, we still have the wind but it isn't as 'strong' as it was when I was growing up in the rural part of NC. The part that I miss the most about living in the countryside is marveling at the stars at night. Where I live now, the street lights illuminate the night and only the brightest stars can be see on a clear night. When growing up away from the city, I remember being outside at night and wondering how many stars there were as they were more numerous to ever count.

I'm glad you had a good vacation!

Nature has its way of playing its tunes with breeze as its fingers and the woods as its strings that it touches in rhythm on its way from one to the other...a different note when it softly touches the bamboo trees...another when it washes through the leaves of eucalyptus... and yet another soft and mellow sound as it plays on the strings of banyan tree... the teak and tamarind with its own whispers, and the paddy field with her own murmurs...

....and blades of grass lying below and leaves of trees up above, waving their hands alike in unison....in harmony..

That’s perhaps a hymn from nature’s book to blur the lines that divide the world...

...a hymn that’s often seen as ‘gone with the wind’...

Nothing humbles you more than nature. Pity we don't have enough time to stop and appreciate nature.

Bungi,
This is wonderful. I am in North Carolina listening to so many wonderful bird sounds that I have never heard before. And the surf.

Thanks for visiting me today. It's always good to hear from you.
